How to Participate

Let’s make some magic!
Helps us create a welcoming and transformative space where you can connect with your peers, elders, and knowledge holders in the Black 2SLGBTQIA+ community while also learning and reflecting on collective experiences. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun with like-minded individuals.
Participant Types
Youth Participant
Someone between the ages of 14 and 25, who is also Black and 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying. UVK is in primary service to this demographic.
Facilitator
Someone who offers/ is invited to run a program for our youth participants. Preference is given to individuals who are Black and 2SLBGTQIA+ identifying but we welcome people of all identities who support UVK’s mission and who want to contribute as a facilitator. Facilitators receive an honorarium for their contribution.
Elder Participant
Someone over the age of 25, who is also Black and 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying.
Peer Lead
A youth participant who co-facilitates a chosen session and supports the facilitator. Peer Leads promote peer-to-peer learning and offer mutual support. Peer Leads receive an honorarium for each session they co-facilitate.
Supporter
Someone who may be considered an ally, who is not Black nor 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying, can be any age. Supporters offer assistance and cooperation in advocating for Black Queer youth and UVK’s mission.
Loved One
Someone who is cherished by a youth participant, who themselves is invested in supporting that youth and makes it possible for them to participate in and attend UVK sessions. A loved one can be any age and have any identity. They can also attend events and programs with their youth participant.
Past Programs
-
Meet and Greets
A laid-back opportunity to connect and set the stage for UltraViolet Kingston. Calling all Black 2SLGBTQIA+ students, educators, activists, artists, community members to kick off the start of Kingston’s first ever Black Queer youth group.
-
Letters to Myself
An opportunity to explore the power of self-reflection and freedom through writing. What does freedom - living your truth, liberation, dreaming - look like? Make space for yourself to dream, design, and map that world - your way.
-
Games Nights
Low stakes opportunities for our youth and facilitators to get to know each other while having fun. Each games night would be held in the same location with access to an affirming private space. Pedalworks Cafe & works with us on this.
Help with Participating
-
To ensure there is access for all our participants to attend any and all of our programs, we provide Uber gift cards upon request.
-
It’s simple, if there are any gender affirming items that our youth participants need, we will source and provide them free of charge.
-
If there is anything that we can do or offer (items, programs, initiatives, events, etc.) to support our youth participants and our broader community please feel free to request via email.
